Be Inspired : Newborn Session

One of the things I love most about photographing newborns is being creative and coming up with all these fun ideas for shoots.  I’m not sure if there is any other type of photography that allows for the number of props I get to use when I am preparing for a newborn session.

Once I get an idea of what my clients are looking for in their session I start working.  I make all my own props, one because it’s fun and two, because it is so expensive to buy all the things I want!!  I knit all my hats, hot glue all my little wings, collect dead branches from the woods, and I hit antique stores for all the vintage wood bowls.  My husband makes all my wood floor drops and backdrops.  When a client hires me for their newborn photos they are truly getting unique, one of a kind photos.

This session was full of fun props.  All the feathers for the wings came from Hobby Lobby, the branches came from the woods by my house and the butterflies were cut from brown paper bags.  The rest of the antiques were pulled from my home.  All of my hats are made with DK Comfort yarn from Jennings Street Yarn.

What inspires you and how are you making your photography business unique?
